CEMIG announced on Monday 22/07 that it will hold a new auction to purchase energy from solar and wind sources. The winners of the auction will operate the plants within the scope of the free energy market, and the contracts will last up to 19 years, lasting between the beginning of 2023 and the end of 2041. The auction will take place on 13/09/2019.
The first auction of this type carried out by CEMIG took place in June last year, where the concessionaire contracted 431 MW, followed by another auction in October with another 152 MW of solar and wind sources.
The energy generated by these sources is classified as incentivized. Consumers who have contracted demand from 500 kWp to 2,5 MWp are obliged to purchase energy from these sources.
The auction comes in order to alleviate the loss of generation that the concessionaire had when selling power generation plants to other companies in the market. In total, CEMIG sold 2,9 GW to Enel, Engie and the Chinese state-owned energy investment company.
CEMIG is today the fourth largest energy concessionaire in the country, and already has more than 70 energy plants in its portfolio.
