Wood Mackenzie, a global renewable energy information company, announced this Monday (14) that the world's top ten suppliers of photovoltaic inverters dominated 86% of the market in 2022, representing an increase of 4% compared to 2021.

In total, 333 GWac worth of inverters were shipped, driven by demands from Europe, Asia-Pacific (APAC) and the United States.

The top five vendors – Huawei, Sungrow, Solis, Growatt and GoodWe – shipped over 200 GWac, accounting for 71% of the global total PV inverter shipments in 2022, marking an 8% growth compared to 2021.

Huawei's shipments saw a notable increase of 83% in 2022 compared to 2021, while Sungrow's shipments grew by 56% in the same period.

For the eighth consecutive year, Huawei and Sungrow maintain their market leadership, occupying first and second place, respectively. Asia-Pacific leads inverter market

The Asia-Pacific (APAC) region held half of the global inverter market in 2022, with 44% growth compared to the previous year, totaling 130 GWac in shipments to the region.

China led the market with 78% of inverter shipments heading to APAC as installations reached historic levels. India maintained its position as the second largest inverter market in the region in 2022, but recorded a 25% reduction in shipments compared to the previous year.

Meanwhile, Japan overtook Australia as the third-largest market, with 7 GWac shipped to the country, representing 23% year-on-year growth.

In Europe, approximately 28% of the global inverter market was served, totaling 92 GWac shipped to the region. Europe has experienced the biggest increase in remittances, with growth of 82% in 2022, as the region aims to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 under the European Green Deal plan.

In the United States, however, demand accounted for 13% of the global market, with only 42 GWac shipped to the country. PV-storage hybrid inverters made up 10% of shipments in the region, as the U.S. increases integration of solar energy and storage.
