O Chile opened this week the Ceme 1, a complex located in the Antofagasta region with installed capacity of 480 MW. According to the electricity generation company, Generadora Metropolitana, the project is the largest in the country.

The plant is private and has 882.720 photovoltaic modules with fixed tilt in the east-west direction, installed in an area equivalent to 370 football fields, in addition to occupying an area of 435 hectares.

The complex that generates enough energy to serving half a million homes belongs to Generadora Metropolitana, owned by the French group EDF and the Chilean company Andes Mining & Energy. In total, the plant will have a 9,6 km transmission line that will be connected to Chile's SEN (National Electric System).

“The inauguration of the Ceme1 photovoltaic project is a new step towards making our electrical system no longer dependent on fossil fuels and so that we can move towards the decarbonization of our energy matrix”, said the Minister of Energy, Diego Pardow, mentioned in a company statement, according to Uol.
