Um study released by CNI (National Confederation of Industry) pointed out that the investments in energy efficiency are crucial to not only curb the use of polluting sources but also to stimulate the competitiveness of companies in the market.
To give you an idea, currently, more than 42 thousand industries in Brazil already have a solar energy system installed in the micro and mini distributed generation segment, according to data from ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency).
Furthermore, recently, the source exceeded 44 GW of installed power, with more than R$208,2 billion in investments and around 1,3 million green jobs created since the beginning of its expansion, according to data from ABSOLAR (Brazilian Photovoltaic Solar Energy Association).
In view of this scenario, the Dow, leader in materials science, has increasingly invested in the Brazilian market, mainly in floating photovoltaic systems, offering different solutions for the manufacture of components for solar panels.
With more than 125 years of experience, the company stated that, in partnership with strategic allies, it aims to expand the installation of solar farms floating, taking advantage of the vast solar incidence in Brazilian territory.
Produced at the Bahia Blanca plant, in Argentina, the high-density polyethylene resin HDPE LP 8000 HD makes it possible to manufacture floating supports for solar panels, offering high resistance and durability.
According to Lucas Sasahara, Dow Marketing Manager for the Rigid Packaging segment in Latin America, the company's portfolio of HDPE™ resins has excellence in mechanical properties and processability.
Furthermore, he highlighted that such products have exceptional resistance to environmental stress cracking (ESCR) and allow customers to meet their needs in a wide range of applications, such as Home & Personal Care, Agricultural and Food.
“Offering sustainable, high-performance solutions is a strategic priority in Dow’s rigid packaging market. We collaborate with the region's leading value chain companies to improve the durability, longevity and performance of photovoltaic systems. We recognize the crucial role of materials science in innovating and solving challenges in manufacturing these modules,” he emphasized.
“With our solutions, we seek to encourage the local production of solar panels, encouraging manufacturers to explore more complex projects, in order to meet the country’s growing demand for renewable energy,” concluded Sasahara.
Other Dow solutions
Dow also offers a range of products for manufacturing photovoltaic modules such as adhesives, encapsulants and coatings, which ensure long-term performance, reliability and ease of application.
Polyolefin and silicone encapsulants provide long-lasting protection and extended service life to solar cells. Furthermore, polyolefin elastomers in the ENGAGE™ PV family improve performance over time, resulting in highly efficient modules, with reduced energy losses and minimal degradation under adverse conditions.
sustainability goals
Regarding sustainability goals, the manufacturer intends to reduce its carbon emissions by 5 million tons by 2030, which represents a 15% reduction compared to 2020 levels.
They also hope to become carbon neutral by 2050, taking a comprehensive, phased approach, focusing on increasing the use of clean and renewable energy, as well as developing low-carbon products and solutions.
About Dow
Dow has a range of solutions for solar energy technologies and is committed to addressing climate change, working towards a low-carbon future, including the conservation and restoration of natural spaces and the sustainable management of water resources, both in its operations, such as in the value chain.
The company's portfolio of plastics, industrial intermediates, coatings and silicones offers a variety of science-based products and solutions to customers in high-growth market segments such as packaging, infrastructure, mobility and consumer applications.
