A fire in equipment at the Delmiro Gouveia Substation, operated by Axia Energia (formerly Chesf), caused an interruption in the supply of electricity in neighborhoods of Fortaleza and the Metropolitan Region on Tuesday afternoon (14).

According to the ONS (National Electric System Operator), the incident began at 16:05 PM. As a consequence, there was also an operational impact on the Fortaleza Substation, interrupting 499 MW of load, with 261 MW at the Fortaleza Substation and 238 MW at the Delmiro Gouveia Substation.

At 16:14 PM, the main 69 kV busbar of the Fortaleza Substation was restored. Then, at 16:27 PM, the main 69 kV busbar of the Delmiro Gouveia Substation resumed operation, allowing for the gradual restoration of the system. Complete normalization of the power supply occurred at 18:30 PM.

In a statement sent to the press, Enel Ceará reported that the fire originated in equipment at the substation under the responsibility of Axia Energia – which, in turn, stated that "the origin of the event is under analysis".

According to the distributor, approximately 98% of affected consumers had their power restored within about 50 minutes through operational maneuvers.

Fire occurred hours after incident at hydroelectric plant.

The episode was recorded a few hours after another incident involving an asset operated by Axia Energia. On the morning of this Tuesday (14), a A fire hit a transformer at the Marimbondo Hydroelectric Power Plant., following the explosion of a transformer bank.

The causes of the two incidents are being investigated by the competent authorities and, so far, there is no indication that the events are related in any way.
