Furnas launched, at the end of December, its first auction of I-REC renewable energy certificates, which will be held on January 29th. The objective is to attract consumers focused on contributing to the environment and sustainability.

Interested parties will be able to make proposals for the number of certificates and price, respecting the minimum quantity of 150 thousand certificates in the case of product 1 (final beneficiary, companies committed to reducing their emissions) and 50 thousand in the case of product 2 (marketer).

According to the company, the products offered are from water sources from the Itumbiara (2.082 MW) and Serra da Mesa (1.275 MW) hydroelectric plants, both located in Goiás.

To participate in the auction you must send an email to cer@furnas.com.br by filling out the registration form, and membership term, with the documentation for qualification according to the notice available on the website. website.

José Alves de Mello Franco, director of Commercialization and Regulation at Furnas, highlighted the growth of the Renewable Energy Certificates market as companies are committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. “In this sense, the acquisition of I-RECs is an effective and easily accessible alternative for companies seeking more sustainable policies.”

For Fabiana Teixeira, superintendent of Market Studies and Innovations at Furnas, the auction opens doors for more demanding buyers who value socio-environmental aspects. “We want to inspire companies to make good choices, encourage the use of renewable energy and contribute to a more sustainable planet.”

About I-REC

According to Furnas, I-REC allows all electricity users to make a conscious, evidence-based choice for renewable energy, in any country. Each I-Rec is equivalent to 1 MWh of renewable energy generated.
