The Government of the State of São Paulo, through the Secretariat of Infrastructure and Environment (SIMA), included 13 cities in Vale do Ribeira on the route of the Huawei Solar Road Show - an itinerant project by ABGD (Brazilian Association of Distributed Generation) that aims to stimulate the renewable energy market in Brazil.
The objective of the partnership is to qualify 260 people with introductory courses on installing photovoltaic solar energy systems in the region. The course, which starts in May, is free and will be part of the Vale do Futuro program, coordinated by the Regional Development Secretariat.
The project has received international support and was selected by The Climate Group to receive a US$10 grant from the Future Fund, a fund that contributes to measures to minimize the impacts of climate change. Classes will be held in an adapted classroom built inside a mobile training unit that will travel between the various cities.
The space also has a house with a kitchen and laundry room with a real on-grid and off-grid microgeneration system, used for demonstration activities. In total, there will be eight hours of activities, which include basic notions of regulation of distributed generation of electric energy, preliminary dimensioning of solar photovoltaic projects, safety and quality of installations and sales.
Students interested in obtaining their installation certification will be referred to comprehensive training offered by SENAI and other educational institutions. “In addition to contributing to boosting the local economy, especially during this pandemic, we are promoting the use of renewable sources and distributed generation. This is an important socioeconomic and environmental initiative,” explains Marcos Penido, State Secretary of Infrastructure and Environment.
The traveling unit will leave São Paulo and arrive in Iguape on May 2nd (the first city in the Valley), starting the course the following day. In addition to the Valley, the mobile unit will pass through the coast of São Paulo and other regions in the interior of the State, then continue its course through Brazil. According to Marco Vinholi, Secretary of Regional Development, in addition to training citizens, the action “encourages the use of energy from sustainable and renewable sources, positively impacting the lives of the local population”, he said.
The project is sponsored by the technology company Huawei, Risen Solar Technology and the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation. The course will adopt all safety and social distancing protocols established to combat the Covid-19 pandemic.
