A choice of the name to assume the Directorate had been stirring behind the scenes of the National Congress over the last month, with several parliamentarians being polled as possible candidates for the position.
Initially, leaders of the União Brasil and MDB competed for the nomination of the Folder. On the one hand, leaders of União Brasil pressed for the appointment of Elmar Nascimento (União Brasil-BA). On the other hand, the MDB rushed to try to get the name of Renan Filho (MDB-AL).

Biography
Born in 1970, in Belo Horizonte (MG), Alexandre Silveira graduated in law from Fundação Educacional Monsenhor Messias, in Sete Lagoas (MG).
In 1997, he took a public exam for the position of Police Chief, where he began his career, the following year, in the municipality of Antônio Dias (MG), in the Vale do Aço region.
In 2002, he had his first political experience, when he was invited by José Alencar to run for one of the seats in the Chamber of Deputies.
Between 2003 and 2006, he was a public servant in the security area, where he headed the DNIT (National Department of Infrastructure).
In the 2006 elections, he was elected federal deputy with more than 147 thousand votes, being the fifth most voted parliamentarian in Minas Gerais. In 2010, he was re-elected with almost 200 thousand votes.
In February 2022, he became a senator after taking over the vacancy left by Antonio Anastasia (PSD-MG), who resigned to take up a seat at the TCU (Federal Audit Court).
