Minas Gerais reached an unprecedented milestone in Brazil earlier this week. The state is the first to reach one hundred thousand self-generated solar energy systems connected to the grid. The survey was conducted and released this Monday (2) by ABSOLAR (Brazilian Association of Photovoltaic Solar Energy), based on data from ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency).
The Agency's data also shows that the commercial consumer class leads, with 16.507 systems installed and connected to the grid. The residential class comes in second place, with 69.062 systems, and the rural class comes in third, with 12.341 units generating energy through solar energy. According to the survey, there are more than 135 thousand consumers taking advantage of this clean, sustainable and economical source.
Furthermore, the state of Minas Gerais leads the state ranking of photovoltaic DG (distributed generation) with 1,5 GW of power – which represents almost 20% of the country's total installed capacity. In second place is São Paulo, with 0,78 GW of power, and in third place is Rio Grande do Sul, with 0,77 GW of installed capacity.
