A NGK , a Japanese multinational specializing in high-tech ignition systems, today announced the investment of R$2 million to install a new solar plant within its factory in Mogi das Cruzes (SP).

The project is part of one of the initiatives with Ecovison 2030, the company's global program that establishes targets for responding to climate change.

With the investment, the company seeks to expand the supply of the Mogi das Cruzes unit, enabling an increase in energy generation capacity by 36%.

According to Eduardo Tsukahara, managing director of the company, the solar plant has been used by the company as an alternative to solve global energy challenges, since solar energy comes from a clean and renewable source.

“In a period of one year, NGK stopped emitting approximately 104 tons of CO2, which corresponds to the planting of 645 trees per year”, says Tsukahara.

Installed in March 2021, NGK already has the largest photovoltaic system in the Alto Tietê region, which consists of around 3 thousand modules and 10 inverters, occupying two hectares of the factory land.

“NGK is increasingly concerned with preserving the environment and seeks to contribute to the sustainability of its operations”, concludes Tsukahara.

Other sustainable initiatives

In addition to its own generation of solar energy, NGK reprocesses 90% of its waste (12 tons per month) and recycles 70% of the water used through an effluent treatment plant at the factory itself.

“These two initiatives are also considered an important part of the company's effort, which aims to promote sustainable growth in all its activities in Brazil by reducing environmental impacts and increasing productivity”, concludes Tsukahara.
