O National System Operator (ONS) evaluates what were the causes that led to the blackout on Saturday (15) in the state of Roraima. At 17:19 pm, the entire isolated system was automatically turned off, including the thermoelectric plants that were in operation at the time of the incident.

A failure led to the interruption of 190 MW of load. Power was only restored at 00:10 on Sunday (16). Roraima is the only state outside the National Interconnected System (SIN) and depends on thermoelectric plants to supply energy.

The load recomposition process was coordinated by Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira, from ONS, from National Electric Energy Agency (ANEEL) and the generating companies that operate in the system of the local energy distributor, Roraima Energia, which serves 197 thousand consumer units.

As of 17:55 pm, the ONS began coordinating the actions to restore the system. However, technical problems encountered in the process prevented the effective return to service of interrupted loads.

At 20:25 pm, the ONS, in partnership with all the agents involved, began a new effective recovery process and, from that time on, the loads gradually returned to normal.

“We reiterate that, since the power supply interruption was identified, we acted promptly to ensure that complete power supply was restored as quickly as possible,” says the ONS.
