August saw a new global record for EV (electric vehicle) sales. The number of registrations in the month was 516 thousand units, representing 7,7% of the market.

The result is 114% higher than that recorded in relation to the same period in 2020. In this segment, the BYD was the manufacturer that sold the most in August, ahead of Tesla, SGMW and Volkswagen.

During the month, the company sold 60.508 electric cars, representing an increase of 331,9% compared to the previous year.

Among the company's highlights is the BYD Han EV – equipped with Blade batteries, approved in the battery industry's most extreme drilling test. Since April this year, the equipment has been used in all of the manufacturer's 100% electric car models.

Electric vehicle safety

Adalberto Maluf, Director of Sustainability Marketing at BYD Brasil, explained that the company is actively contributing to strengthening the safety of electrified cars.

“Electromobility is consolidated as the main trend in the automotive sector in the world. BYD’s strategy of adopting the Blade battery for all of the brand’s future 100% electric models will make EVs safer and help accelerate the pace of vehicle electrification globally.”

SP leads the EV market

The last survey carried out by ABV (Brazilian Electric Vehicle Association) points out that the state of São Paulo leads the Brazilian electric vehicle market, with 34% of the total number of cars and light commercial vehicles registered in 2020.

The research, based on data from Renavam (National Registry of Motor Vehicles), shows that of the 19.745 electrified vehicles sold from January to December last year in the country, 6.850 were registered by the São Paulo Detran.
