A solar energy system installed in a social project in Miracema (TO) should contribute to increasing vegetable production by up to 25% and reducing electricity costs in agricultural activities carried out on site.
The installation has eight photovoltaic modules, totaling 4,92 kWp of installed power, with an estimated generation of approximately 400 kWh per month, meaning the system could supply up to 95% of the association's electricity consumption.
The expectation, according to EDP, one of the companies responsible for the initiative, is that self-generation will provide savings of approximately R$ 400 per month on the energy bill.
The electricity generated by the system will be used for activities such as water pumping, cooling, lighting, and irrigation of the areas cultivated by the entity, reducing the costs associated with agricultural production.
According to information released by EDP, electricity can represent up to 40% of variable costs in hydroponic cultivation, mainly due to the need for continuous operation of equipment such as pumps and cooling systems.
Named "Dream, Light and Root," the project was implemented in the seedling nursery of the Alliance for a Better Future Association, an organization that serves approximately 180 people in situations of socioeconomic vulnerability.
Part of the revenue obtained from the sale of agricultural production is allocated to social programs developed by the organization, including the purchase and distribution of basic food baskets.
