Natal International Airport (RN) has completed the installation of 11 panels for its new solar power plant – a project representing an investment of R$ 24 million and expected to make the terminal self-sufficient in energy. The project has entered its final implementation phase and is scheduled to be inaugurated in early November.

The following are still pending: the installation of the infrastructure for the pipeline, the installation of poles and overhead cables, the connection to the electrical grid, and the completion of final tests.

The project is being carried out by the Rio Grande do Norte-based company WSO Solar and will have the capacity to generate 1 million kWh per month, a volume sufficient to supply approximately 6.800 homes with an average consumption of 150 kWh per month.

The installation of all the panels represents an important step forward in the project, which began in November 2025. According to the concessionaire, the undertaking will be the largest solar power plant for self-consumption in Rio Grande do Norte.

Among the anticipated environmental benefits is a reduction of 654 tons of CO₂ per year. In addition to operational and environmental gains, the plant is part of Zurich Airport Brazil's decarbonization strategy and will contribute to achieving the goal of net-zero emissions by 2040 at the airports managed by the company in the country.

Solar energy is gaining ground in Brazilian airports.

In addition to Natal (RN), the adoption of solar energy is also advancing in other airports in the country, both to meet the consumption of the facilities and in applications related to the airport's own operation.

At Vitória Airport (ES), for example, Zurich Airport Brasil also invested R$ 20 million in the construction of a complex consisting of four photovoltaic plants, with a total installed capacity of 5,787 MWp and approximately 8 modules.

The dealership also opened, in February of this year, a 1 MW power plant at Macaé Airport (RJ), composed of 1.440 solar panels and sized to supply all the energy demand of the airport complex.
