A solar power plant located in Dourados (MT) was targeted by criminals who stole copper cables, electrical equipment, and also caused damage to the unit's structure. The case was registered by the Military Police and will be investigated by the Civil Police.
According to the police report, employees of the company responsible for the plant went to the property last Thursday (30) and found the place with signs of invasion. During the inspection, it was found that several materials used in the photovoltaic system had disappeared.
After discovering the crime, company employees contacted the Military Police, who filed a police report. According to the police report, the criminals had cut off the power to the premises and rendered the monitoring system inoperable, which facilitated the act.
The criminals stole the wiring from 136 photovoltaic modules, as well as 1.500 meters of copper cable, eight surge protection devices (SPDs), and 16 fuses. In addition to the theft, the intruders caused damage to the power plant itself.
The case was classified as aggravated theft with destruction or breaking of an obstacle and forwarded to the Civil Police for investigation, who will seek to identify the perpetrators and clarify the circumstances of the break-in.
How to minimize losses in solar power plants?
The theft of cables and equipment from photovoltaic systems has been a growing concern for owners of solar power plants across Brazil.
In recent years, the Canal Solar The newspaper published several reports showing the increase in this type of occurrence, in addition to experts explaining what measures can help minimize the risks.
Among the recommendations are the installation of monitoring systems powered by batteries or uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), capable of continuing to function even in the event of a power outage, reinforcement of property fencing, perimeter sensors, and adequate lighting.
