Batteries used in solar energy systems have become cheaper in Brazil over the past year, according to a new survey released this week by Solfácil. The study found that the price of single-phase batteries, aimed at homes, fell 25% between May 2024 and 2025.
Three-phase batteries, used mainly in commercial systems and industries, saw a 20% reduction in the same period. The drop was mainly driven by the decrease in the price of lithium — the material used in the manufacture of batteries — and by advances in production, which became more efficient due to the increase in demand.
“The trend is for prices to continue falling. In the first half of 2025 alone, we have already seen a reduction of around 18% compared to the prices practiced at the beginning of the year,” explains Jaison Reis, director of distribution products at Soleasy.
With the lowest prices, the professional assesses that the expectation is that the use of batteries will grow in the country, especially in regions with unstable power supplies. They would also be important for critical applications such as refrigeration, data centers, telecommunications and hospitals. In addition, recent changes in the regulation of distributed generation may further encourage the adoption of storage systems.
Given the difficulties in approving plants with concessionaires and the limitations on the use of generated energy credits, the executive says that batteries emerge as an alternative for those seeking greater energy autonomy. “The market is maturing, both in technology and in the perception of value. With more affordable prices, energy storage must stop being a niche and become increasingly part of solar projects in the country”, adds Reis.
