Reservoirs in the South region could reach 91,8% of storage by the end of July, which would represent a recovery of 24,5 percentage points. The region begins the month with 67,3% of EAR (Stored Energy). “In June, the South region had already partially recovered storage and there is a prospect that this pattern will continue in July,” said ONS Director General Marcio Rea.
According to him, this is the result of the combination of higher inflows in the region and the operational policy of the ONS (National Electric System Operator), which has been focused on restoring water levels in the reservoirs of the Southern subsystem. “The current percentages leave us well positioned for the second half of the year, but each year has been different and we are always having to adapt our operational policies to maintain service,” adds Rea.
The ENA (Natural Affluent Energy) is expected to reach 113% of the historical average (Long Term Average – MLT) in the South in July. The ENA is the indicator that measures the amount of rain that reaches the reservoirs. According to ONS forecasts, the other regions will have below-average rainfall:
- 82% of MLT in the Southeast/Central-West;
- 66% of MLT in the North;
- 41% of MLT in the Northeast.
Storage levels in July are expected to exceed 60% across all subsystems:
- North, with 96,5%;
- Northeast, with 65,3%;
- South, with 91,8%;
- Southeast/Central-West, with 65,1%.
Load scenario
According to the PMO (Monthly Operation Program) bulletin, the demand scenario points to a slight expansion in the SIN (National Interconnected System), with an increase of 0,2% (75.926 MW average). The submarkets that should register growth are the Northeast, 5% (12.994 MW average), and the North, 4,5% (8.121 MW average).
For the South and Southeast/Central-West, the estimates are a reduction of 2% (13.135 MWmed) and 1,3% (41.676 MWmed), respectively. The percentages compare the projections of July 2025 with the results verified in the same period of 2024.
