The STF (Supreme Federal Court) signed, this Wednesday (19), an agreement for the creation of a consortium focused on shared energy generation. The partnership between the Court and the Real Estate Company of Brasília (Terracap) and CEB Participações (CEB Par – Companhia Energética de Brasília) will enable the use of clean and renewable energy to supply the Court.
The consortium plans to implement a distributed solar photovoltaic energy generation plant in an area of 13 hectares in the Catetinho Housing Sector, in the Federal District (DF). The project will be responsible for generating energy credits that will be used by the STF and other consortium members to reduce consumption through the traditional grid.
During the ceremony, the president of the STF, Minister Luís Roberto Barroso, highlighted the importance of the initiative for the energy transition and the reduction of the carbon footprint. “Climate change and global warming are defining challenges of our time. Each institution must contribute to this transition and, where it is not possible to reduce emissions, seek to offset them.”
According to the minister, with this project and the installation of solar panels in Annex II of the Court, more than 90% of the energy consumed by the Supreme Court's units will come from renewable sources.
All of these measures are part of a series of socio-environmental sustainability actions by the STF +Sustentável and STF Carbono Zero Programs, which carried out studies to calculate the amount of greenhouse gases emitted from the Court's activities.
On the occasion, the governor of the Federal District, Ibaneis Rocha, on behalf of Terracap and CEB Par, also said that the objective is to expand the initiative to other courts and public bodies. “This symbolic project shows how the Judiciary can be an example for the country,” he said.
The partnership is expected to last 25 years, with the possibility of renewal. In addition to the significant savings on energy bills, the Court emphasized that it strengthens its environmental responsibility by adopting compensatory measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere.

Also attending the ceremony were the Secretary General of the Court's Presidency, Aline Osorio, the Secretary of the Secretariat for Relations with Society (SRS/STF), Teresa Melo, the Director General of the National Electric Energy Agency (ANEEL), Sandoval Feitosa, as well as employees and members of the teams involved in the project.
