The TCU (Federal Court of Auditors) will carry out inspections of the country's regulatory agencies with the aim of determining the impact of budget cuts on the institutions' activities. ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency) is one of the 11 agencies that will be investigated.
The decision was made against a backdrop of complaints between the Federal Government and the agencies. The government questions the time taken to analyze some processes and the agencies criticize the lack of structure.
According to Minister Antônio Anastasia, he stated that the agencies are having difficulty performing their functions due to a lack of budget, structure and staff. He claims that the agencies are not a priority for the government.
According to the TCU, disagreements between the government and the agencies began when the Minister of MME (Ministry of Mines and Energy), Alexandre Silveira, claimed to have a “boycott” from the heads of regulatory agencies.
Last week, the minister sent a letter to ANEEL requesting agility to analyze the processes. He even mentioned the possibility of intervention and accountability of the directors of Agêncial. In response, the ANEEL drew attention to the vacant seat on the board and the reduced staff.
