The GD (distributed generation) of TIM, created in 2017 and which promotes the supply of the network using renewable energy plants leased from partners, will account for 59% of the telephone operator's total consumption by the end of the year.

In other words, almost 60% of the energy used by the company will come from clean sources, such as solar, hydroelectric and biogas, generated by 132 plants in 25 Brazilian states. The information was released by the company in a press release.

By December 2023, the telephone company had reached the mark of 100 DG projects. According to Bruno Gentil, VP of corporate resources at TIM, the strategy of investing in its own energy generation is excellent for the brand's ambitions, which aim to eliminate its carbon emissions by 2040.

“We have important efficiency by focusing on renewable sources, while at the same time reaffirming our position of contributing to the preservation of natural resources and reducing the impact on the climate. It is essential that companies the size of TIM lead this movement, stimulating other organizations and promoting the production of clean energy in the Brazilian electricity sector, generating a virtuous circle for society as a whole,” he said.

The new plants planned for 2024 are, for the most part, solar-powered and will be located in the states of Bahia, Sergipe, Paraíba, Rio Grande do Norte, Tocantins, Ceará, Maranhão, Pará, Roraima, Amazonas, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Espírito Santo and Goiás.

With the expansion, production will reach 405 GWh at the end of December 2024, a growth of 23% compared to last year.

TIM highlights, in its statement, that it already operates with 100% renewable energy, complementing the production from the plants with acquisitions in the Free Energy Market and the purchase of renewable energy certificates.
