Trina Solar advances in the Brazilian market

Trina Solar's plans include distributed generation and centralized generation segments

Chinese solar panel manufacturer Trina Solar, one of the largest in the world, has plans to advance in the Brazilian market. According to the company's general director for Latin America, Trina Solar intends to reach a market share of 30%, rivaling companies such as BYD Energy and Canadian, both of Chinese origin, currently among the largest participants in the Brazilian solar energy market. .

The solar energy market in Brazil has shown rapid growth. With the distributed generation and centralized generation segments launched in 2012 and 2014, respectively, the country already has more than 1% of its electricity generation matrix based on solar sources, with around 3 GW of solar panels installed, according to statistics provided by ANEEL – National Electric Energy Agency.

Trina Solar's plans include distributed generation and centralized generation segments. The distributed generation segment, aimed at retail, has been growing at a rapid pace with constant increases in electricity tariffs. The centralized generation segment does not rely solely on the will of the private sector and depends on the promotion of auctions by the Federal Government. Fortunately, for the sector's players to celebrate, the auctions, which began in 2014, have been increasingly frequent.

In addition to its plans to conquer a third of the Brazilian market, Trina Solar intends to improve the efficiency and quality of products introduced in the country, with the adoption of monocrystalline module technology, a trend that has been adopted by many of the main Asian manufacturers of solar modules, to the detriment of polycrystalline technology.

In the retail segment, Trina Solar is investing heavily in a partnership with Aldo Solar, from Maringá-PR, one of the largest distributors of components for photovoltaic systems operating in Brazil. Through the distributor, the panel manufacturer will channel products to thousands of integrator and installation companies, Aldo customers, who offer photovoltaic systems to the end consumer.

According to Aldo Solar's press office, which was consulted by our report, the distributor intends to operate as a Trina Solar warehouse in Brazil, maintaining large stocks to serve the market. The distributor's president, Aldo Teixeira, is betting heavily on the partnership with Trina Solar to increase sales of photovoltaic generators in the coming years.

In 2018, Aldo served more than 13 thousand customers and projects a jump to 16 thousand customers by the end of this year. The first 20 containers of Trina Solar photovoltaic modules imported by Aldo will be available in the country from the end of July, according to information from the company. In total there are 75 thousand panels, totaling 30 MW, which will be distributed in the Brazilian market from July and August. For the fourth quarter, the distributor is already planning an additional order of 50 MW from Trina Solar.
