The Monthly Operations Program (PMO) bulletin for the operational week between May 31 and June 6 brings the first projections for the end of next month. The Natural Inflow Energy (ENA) estimated for June is below average in all subsystems.

The South may register an index of 86% of the Long-Term Average (LTA), a condition that should contribute to the recovery of storage. For the other regions, the forecast is that on June 30, the ENA will reach the following results: Southeast/Central-West, 75% of the LTA; North, 57% of the LTA; and Northeast, 29% of the LTA.

Stored Energy (EAR) levels in three subsystems are expected to exceed 60% by the end of next month: North, 99,1%; Northeast, 67%; and Southeast/Central-West, 66,8%. The South region is expected to reach an EAR of 48,5% and, if this level is confirmed, this indicator will have increased by 12,5 percentage points throughout June, considering that the subsystem is expected to start next month with an EAR of 35,6%. The recovery of storage is a result of the measures taken by the Operator.

“We continue with an operational policy of preserving water resources. The South region has received special attention in this regard, since the inflows in the subsystem in recent months have been well below average. We will continue with this policy until the condition of the stored energy in the region improves. The scenarios are constantly monitored and the ONS is prepared to adopt additional measures, if necessary,” said Marcio Rea, general director of the ONS.

Forecasts for load demand in June are for expansion in the National Interconnected System (SIN) and in all subsystems. For the SIN, the outlook for acceleration is 2,1% (77.302 MWmed). Among the submarkets, the greatest advance should be observed in the North, with 6,1% (8.178 MWmed), followed by the Northeast, with 4,2% (12.948 MWmed).

The South and Southeast/Central-West regions are expected to register increases of 2,8% (13.212 MWmed) and 0,5% (42.964 MWmed), respectively. The percentages compare the projections for June 2025 with the results recorded in the same period in 2024.

The Marginal Operating Cost (MOC) for the next operating week is the same in the North and Northeast, at R$289,27/MWh. For the Southeast/Central-West, it is at R$289,73/MWh and in the South at R$291,65/MWh.

What's new in the July PMO

The July PMO presentation, scheduled for June 26th and 27th, will be in a hybrid format, with an in-person event at the ONS Auditorium, in Rio de Janeiro, and the presence of Marcio Rea and Christiano Vieira, the Operations Director.

“ONS is always looking for ways to improve its relationship with agents. In a special and extraordinary edition, we will hold the July PMO in a hybrid format, with a presentation in the Operator Auditorium, and simultaneous transmission, for those who cannot be present”, said Vieira.

“The edition will include an assessment of the operation in the first half of the year, prepared by the Operations Department, and a forecast for the second half of the year, prepared by the Planning Department. These changes aim to meet the requests of agents and reinforce values such as transparency and integration,” he concluded.
