The installation meeting of the Joint Committee of the National Congress that will analyze MP (Provisional Measure) 1.300/2025 – which deals with the reform of the electricity sector – was postponed until next week.
Due to the obstruction of legislative work that has been supported by opposition parliamentarians, many parliamentary committees did not work this Tuesday (5).
The Joint Committee meeting was scheduled for next Tuesday (12), at 14:30 pm. The committee is made up of 13 senators and 13 deputies, with the same number of substitutes.
So far, four parliamentary nominations remain to be made for alternate positions, including one senator and three representatives. The federal government's provisional measure reforms the Brazilian electricity sector and creates a social energy tariff.
With the postponement of the commission's installation, the board will have just over a month to consider the text, since MP 1.300/2025 will "expire" on September 17. This is because it was published on May 21, and its maximum validity is 120 days (initial 60, extendable for another 60).
The text submitted by the Lula administration (Workers' Party) will be reported by Federal Deputy Fernando Filho (União Brasil-PE). He was Minister of Mines and Energy between 2016 and 2018, during the administration of Michel Temer (MDB).
In turn, the joint committee will be chaired by Senator Eduardo Braga (MDB-AM), who also held the ministry, but in the government of Dilma Rousseff (PT), between 2015 and 2016.

The National Congress returned from parliamentary recess this week, which coincided with the announcement of the house arrest of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL), which took place on Monday (4).
Since then, lawmakers have been working to suspend voting in the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate, demanding that a package of "peace" measures be passed. Among them, a bill granting amnesty to those involved in the January 8, 2023, riots.
