The Ministry of Defense financed the construction of a power plant in Maturacá (AM) with the aim of supplying a military unit located in a remote and difficult-to-access area.
With an investment of R$ 12,5 million, the project will replace an old energy supply system based on diesel generators. The expectation is that the new source will reduce CO₂ emissions by 334,3 tons per year, the equivalent of planting 13.372 trees.
In addition to supplying the military unit, the energy generated will also be shared with communities of the Yanomami ethnic group, which number around 1.800 inhabitants.
Among the main gains expected are improvements in the storage conditions of food, serums, and vaccines – a step forward for food security and healthcare in the Maturacá region and the indigenous communities it serves.
According to the indigenous leader, Chief Shinayuã, "the project represents hope for better days for the local community," he said.
