Hot-dip galvanizing: technical parameters, applicable standards and implications

Metal Light Estruturas Solar has its own galvanizing process and supplies 100% of its materials after hot-dip galvanizing, which guarantees total control over raw materials and the production process, thus achieving high levels of protection, exceeding the ABNT NBR 6323 standard.

The post-galvanizing process consists of immersing the shaped product in preparatory baths of zinc at 450 degrees Celsius, thus coating the part. This coating will serve as a sacrificial material, guaranteeing that the material will not corrode.

The first distinguishing feature of Metal Light galvanizing is its ability to deliver more than 80 micrometers of... galvanizing, exceeding the requirement of ABNT NBR 6323, which indicates the need for 49 micrometers for sheets smaller than 2mm.

This differentiated delivery results in a 30-year guarantee of corrosion protection in C3 environments, which comprise a large part of Brazilian territory. Such quality is possible due to the use of pure, certified zinc, as well as controlled immersion time.

The second advantage is the much faster delivery time of the material, without the need to move cargo to third parties and with exclusive dedication to the client.

Furthermore, the factory is completely open and available to customers for consultations and inspections of galvanized materials. We have 15.000 m² of storage space for parts, ensuring good ventilation and compliance with all safety regulations.

The third differentiating factor is post-galvanization, which guarantees complete coating of the parts after all forming processes. This differs from pre-galvanization (ZAR / Magnelis), where forming occurs before treatment, resulting in low thickness and unprotected areas due to cuts, welds, and bends.

The ABNT NBR 7008 standard indicates that ZAR Z275 steel has a protection capacity of only 20 micrometers, resulting in a service life of 9 years in a C3 environment. Due to these points, we recommend proceeding with the post-galvanizing service from Metal Light Solar Estruturas.
