Good practices for photovoltaic system installations

We highlight some of the mandatory items for the correct installation of photovoltaic plants

The success of installing a photovoltaic plant is result of a series of procedures which depend on the care, knowledge and skills of the professionals involved, generally designers and installers.

Below, we highlight some of the mandatory items for the correct installation of photovoltaic plants.

Grounding and equipotentialization

To ground the system, the panels must be equipotential. For this, there are already clamps that fulfill this function. If there is already an SPDA at the installation site, a new analysis of the system must be carried out, preferably adapting the photovoltaic arrangement so that there is no exposure to direct lightning strikes on the panels.

Organization

It must be assessed whether there are signs of corrosion, such as rust or cracks, in the structure or roof that will support the fasteners and panels. The use of fasteners made of anti-corrosive materials, such as aluminum and stainless steel, is essential.

We recommend making sure that the structure manufacturer carries out the appropriate numerical calculations and tests to ensure that the structure resists the mechanical stresses of compression and tearing of the panels due to wind action in the region where the system will be installed, as NBR 6123, which is currently the standard that guides products in the photovoltaic panel structures market.

Care when working at height

Professionals who participate in installing the system on roofs or heights greater than 2 meters must be qualified in NR 35, which provides several procedures to be carried out when working at heights, highlighting here:

  • Correct use of PPE, such as the use of a parachute belt with lanyard and helmet with chin strap;
  • Correct anchoring of the professional; It is
  • Use of a tool belt or other way of tying tools to the installer or structure.

There are other fundamental items, such as correct sizing, compliance with standards relating to electrical installations, through specialized labor.

Integrators that meet with excellence the aspects discussed above will certainly generate more value for their customers, through efficiency and quality in their projects and execution.
