ISA CTEEP, leader in the country's energy transmission sector, performed a work in the region of Dracena (SP) to enlarge em about 150% a capacity of three transmission lines of 138 kV.

Thereby, It will not be necessary the construction of a new transmission line to cater for greater availability of local generation that comes with the expansion do photovoltaic complex of Dracena and the expansion of Rio Vermelho Thermoelectric Plant – which you use biomass from sugar cane.

According to companhia, the expansion generated around 160 jobs between September 2023 and March 2024. The investment foreseen by ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency) is R$79 million and the RAP (Allowed Annual Revenue) is R$8,3 million.

During the work, the company used a phase-shift transformer, equipment capable of control o power flow. In other words, the amount of energy that a transmission line transports from one point to another.

The equipment was crucial all with make viable o start of works as early as September 2023, since without it it would be necessary to reduce energy generation, which would only be possible in the first half of this year. Another alternative would be a change in the working method, in this case it would cause an increase in both the cost and execution time of the work.

“This is an important technology in the context of the energy transition as it provides flexibility and reliability to the system, allowing better use of existing line corridors in the region”, explains Dayron Urrego, executive director of projects at ISA CTEEP.

Reforms, improvements and modernization

The work involved replacement approximately 400 km of conductor cables, and about 30 equipment at the Dracena Substation, such as disconnecting switches, circuit breakers and current transformers.

The objective is to enlarge o renewable energy flow in the region, offering more security and reliability to the SIN (National Interconnected System).

The initiative is part of Renova Transmissão, the ISA CTEEP electrical transmission modernization program in the state of São Paulo, which encompasses reinforcements and improvements.

In the first quarter of 2024, ISA CTEEP invested R$243,1 million in the renewal of its assets, a volume 19,9% higher than that recorded in the same period last year. Between 2024 and 2028, the company will invest approximately R$5 billion in around 250 projects already authorized by the ANEEL.
