The Minister of Education, Camilo Santana, signed, on the morning of this Tuesday (10), a protocol of intentions with Itaipu Binacional for the implementation of a solar park to supply 17 public universities in the State of Paraná.
According to Camilo, the call for proposals will be released soon and will involve investments of around R$100 million. “This project was conceived by Itaipu Binacional, which many university rectors and directors dreamed of and requested. This will influence the cost and budget of each higher education institution,” he highlighted.
According to him, with the solar park in operation, educational institutions will have at their disposal “an energy generation park the size of 25 football fields”, the minister pointed out, emphasizing that the initiative should benefit more than 237 thousand people.
The announcement was made during the laying of the cornerstone of the new Unila (Federal University for Latin American Integration) campus, in Foz do Iguaçu (PR).

According to the general director of Itaipu Binational, Enio Verri, the entity's technical team carried out a complete survey of the consumption of each higher education institution.
“Itaipu has three basic foundations, which are technological innovation; the production of clean, cheap and quality energy; and our social project Itaipu Mais que Energia. We partner with universities, city halls and entities, working hard on education, and that is what we are doing now, with this project,” said Verri.
