The energy matrix of the Brazilian residential sector reached a renewability rate of 71,8% in 2024, according to data from BEN (National Energy Balance) 2025, published by EPE (Energy Research Company).
This means that more than two-thirds of the energy consumed in homes came from renewable sources last year, such as solar energy – which accounted for almost 80% of residential consumption in the country.
In the commercial sector, photovoltaic energy accounted for 17,4% of energy consumption, ranking second among the most widely used renewable sources. In industry, solar energy accounted for 3,1% of consumption, signaling a gradual replacement of fossil fuels with cleaner alternatives.
Published annually in the first half of the year, the BEN gathers statistics on energy supply and consumption in Brazil, covering everything from the extraction of primary resources to conversion, import, export, distribution and end use.
