“Solar energy in the Brazilian market is a reality that is here to stay. Of the sources we have available in Brazil today, it is the one that has shown the most potential for growth.” This is the analysis of Josiane Palomino, CEO of Sou Vagalume.
During his participation in the podcast Papo Solar, she highlighted that, throughout 2020, the photovoltaic energy has seen huge growth in terms of installed power, including in DG (distributed generation).
“Last year, for example, the ABSOLAR (Brazilian Association of Photovoltaic Solar Energy) announced that there was a record investment in solar energy, of R$13 billion, if we look at an eight-year horizon. In other words, we are talking about a growth of approximately 52%”, said the executive.
“Still in 2020, we can see that there was a very large amount of revenue, around R$4 billion. We see that it is a sector with a lot of opportunity and has a lot to add economically. It is a source that has been developing, which, I believe, will continue to evolve”, highlighted Josiane.
The expert also commented that Brazil is a country with very prosperous regions for photovoltaic generation, not to mention the development of centralized generation. “We had a boom in expansion throughout 2020, which was surprising due to the pandemic.”
“We have seen many companies and people investing in solar energy, even as a way to save money. So, in my opinion, this source is just beginning, and there is still a lot to add. We have observed through ABSOLAR that 2021 will be a year that will bring even more investments”, reported the specialist.
Electrical sector
Regarding the electricity sector, the CEO of Sou Vagalume said that the issue that is currently very evident is the change in price formation. “We had a big change at the beginning of this year, which was the beginning of PLD schedule".
“A massive presence of academics in the electricity sector is noticeable with a focus on price formation analysis, because it is an analysis based on statistical, computational modeling”, he concluded.
