A 35-year-old man suffered a fall from approximately 10 meters in height this Wednesday (02), while installing a solar energy system in an industrial warehouse in the municipality of Coqueiro Seco (AL).
SAMU (Mobile Emergency Care Service) was called at 14:12 pm and the victim was rescued alive, but had head trauma and fractures to the arms, face, ribs, humerus and clavicle, as well as bruises to the chest and abdomen.
The roof where the accident occurred was damaged when rescuers arrived at the scene. The man was stabilized by rescuers and was taken to the Red Area of HGE (State General Hospital), in Maceió (AL).
The coordinator of SAMU Maceió, nurse Beatriz Santana, highlighted teamwork as an essential factor for rescue. “The connection between the Regulation Center and the rescuers allowed for agile and efficient care. This makes all the difference in extremely serious situations,” she said.
According to the latest update from Samu, the patient remained hospitalized, intubated and under the care of specialized teams of thoracic surgery, neurosurgery, oral and maxillofacial surgery and orthopedics.

Importance of safety standards and professional training
In an interview with Canal Solar, William Lacerda, occupational safety engineer and specialist in fall protection systems, explains that regardless of the issues that led the professional to fall from the roof, it is essential that all workers strictly follow the safety recommendationsLike NR 35, which discusses working at heights.
“There are a variety of situations that can explain an accident during a solar system installation. They range from failure to check the anchoring points of the lifelines to the training of the worker, which involves not only the training part, but also their familiarity with the system that will be installed,” he explains.
According to Lacerda, another point that deserves to be highlighted is the need for professionals to carry out a correct structural analysis of the roof on which they will install the system. If the roof is not adequately prepared to support an extra load, it could collapse and the professional could suffer an accident.
“We are witnessing several cases, whether in churches, supermarkets or homes. There is a long history of situations where the structure could not withstand the stresses, and this resulted in accidents or even deaths,” he said.
For this reason, the occupational safety engineer warns that professionals who wish to work in the sector must have technical knowledge and follow the established regulatory standards. “Training and anchoring devices are key to ensuring safety and the correct execution of the work,” Lacerda emphasized.
