PHB Solar launches three-phase/parallel retrofit solar UPS

Manufacturer brings to the market a complete solution: on-grid + off-grid + battery

solar channel PHB Solar launches three-phaseparallel retrofit solar UPS

The retrofit solar UPS system adds inverters in parallel on the same phase

Recently, we had the publication of Inmetro Ordinance 140/2022 (National Institute of Metrology, Quality and Technology), what was once told only as a myth, a legend hidden behind a book with an old and dirty cover, with more than 10 years in progress, has become reality.

Os hybrid inverters and consequently the energy storage in batteries entered the agenda throughout the market. It was debated for so long that the outcome for the sector came as a big surprise.

A PHB Solar with long experience in the telecommunications sector, adding his knowledge with off-grid systems, was able to devise a solution, launched at the end of 2021, to overcome this hole in the standards.

O retrofit solar UPS enabled customers to have their on-grid system with a backup solution, with an off-grid inverter supplying the load in the absence of the grid and taking advantage of the modules already installed on the roof (hence the name retrofit).

Now, in addition to small projects, PHB is able to serve customers with high loads (up to 45 kW), with continuous operation, even with a lack of network, and with the generation of credits at the concessionaire. The retrofit solar UPS system adds inverters in parallel on the same phase (up to 9) or up to 3 per phase, totaling up to 9 inverters.

Figure 1 – Retrofit solar UPS system, in use: 3 off-grid inverters (1 per phase) PHB5048-MKS, an on-grid inverter PHB75K-MT, bank composed of 4 strings of 4 batteries in series

In the example above we see a situation where, using the retrofit solar UPS solution, it is possible to reach 15 kW of backup power and 75 kW of on-grid power for generating credits (99 kWp in modules). In this scenario, motors of up to 5 kW (more than 6 hp) can be started without the aid of a soft starter.

Even with hybrid inverters already on the market, systems that require greater backup power, especially in scenarios where more than one phase is required and which are not yet met with current technology, PHB's retrofit solar UPS solution comes to once again cover this gap. Check out the webinar.

Systems that are already operating will only be able to add the equipment to become solar UPSs – off-grid inverters, QDCA, photovoltaic selector and batteries, as was already done with single-phase retrofit solar UPS systems.

Care must be taken with the voltage of the strings, 500 V and current, 18 A. The protection of the strings must be done externally (string-box) even if the on-grid inverter already has protections internally. All retrofit solar UPS options can be found exclusively at PHB sales platform.
