CGN Brasil has partnered with the Government of Piauí to develop a pilot plant for concentrated solar power with thermal storage, a technology that is unprecedented in the country. The initiative includes studies for the implementation of a project of approximately 100 MW in the state.

Unlike traditional photovoltaic generation, Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) produces electricity from the sun's heat. The system uses mirrors to concentrate solar radiation, generating high temperatures capable of heating thermal fluids.

This heat is then converted into electrical energy, even allowing for thermal storage, functioning as a kind of large-scale "battery." The technology is already adopted in markets such as the United States, China, Chile, and Spain, especially in regions with high solar incidence.

The agreement was signed with the Piauí Institute of Technology and includes analyses of technical, economic, and regulatory feasibility. The proposal also includes technical cooperation, with the exchange of professionals and visits to operational plants in China.

According to the president of CGN Brazil, Mingzhu Li, the project can contribute to increasing the reliability of renewable energy sources in the country by integrating solar generation with storage capacity.

As part of the strategy, a call for applications will be launched to select undergraduate and graduate students from Brazilian universities, who will work on the technical aspects of the study.

CGN is a Chinese multinational company with over 100 GW of installed capacity worldwide. In Brazil, it operates seven wind farms and three solar farms in five states, totaling more than 1,6 GW of installed capacity.

This has already been done in other countries and it was a failure; it's already being dismantled. It's not clean generation because it kills thousands of birds.
Just look for the right information and you'll find it.

A year ago I was reading an article about how the CSP Ivanpah plant was closing because it wasn't profitable, and also because it was killing birds. (Just Google Ivanpah)
I just read here that Brazil wants to open a CSP.

I suppose the Government of Piauí intends to use more modern technologies than Ivanpah, but it's also scary to think it might not work, that's for sure.

This type of power plant failed in the US because it didn't generate the expected amount of energy, the mirrors need constant cleaning, and they require expensive technology for realignment with the sun. It has already failed in countries with the technology, where it is being abandoned, and if it is actually built here, it will be a huge waste of taxpayers' money. https://clickpetroleoegas.com.br/energia-solar-fracassa-em-grande-estilo-usina-bilionaria-no-deserto-de-nevada-se-torna-um-monumento-ao-desperdicio/

I read a news report describing “the poor performance of the mirror (heliostat) project for a power generation tower: the Ivanpah Solar Electric Generating System, located in the Mojave Desert, California. The project, inaugurated in 2014, has faced significant criticism and performance failures throughout its operation, leading to reports of a “$1 billion failure.”

Dear Sirs, this is a very interesting form of energy storage, and Brazil, with its enormous potential for solar energy available throughout the year, could become an important player. I agree that this is also a subject to be explored by universities in the development of master's and doctoral dissertations and theses. We have explored very little the technology of water heating via solar energy. The return on this investment is very good as a replacement for the energy source that electric showers are. Engineer and professor. Master of Science in Electrical Engineering. An example, also very interesting, is the exploration of geothermal energy. WhatsApp and phone (21)997716277

They just shut down the two biggest ones in the world because they weren't working properly, caused too many problems, and killed a lot of birds. Just another excuse for corruption.

Will the workforce be from Piauí? At least it will generate employment and income here in our Piauí for a period of time. Picema Energia Solar is available.
