A Organon, a women's health pharmaceutical company, transformed its Campinas (SP) factory into a green and sustainable complex with solar energy.
The company installed more than 3,1 solar energy panels on site and invested in the surrounding environmental protection area to preserve the habitat of around 90 species of birds native to the region.
The pharmaceutical company also promoted the planting of 350 trees native to the region to reinforce the forest around the industrial complex, in the Nova Sousas neighborhood.
In addition, Organon will promote the recovery of the riparian forest on the banks of the Atibaia River and plans to create a private environmental reserve to expand vegetation coverage and protect the microclimate in the region.
In addition to the bird sanctuary and tree planting, the sustainability policy has reduced carbon emissions by 290 tons per year from the factory's own generation of solar energy, which now accounts for 18% of the total consumed by the factory.
Leonardo Gonçalves, Organon’s environmental manager, explains that the company has a global plan for renewable energy production. “But we wanted to go even further. So, we decided to preserve the bird habitat in the region so that the photovoltaic panels would not cause the birds to feel strange and drive them away from here,” he said.
“Adding this to the replanting of trees to improve the microclimate with the forest standing and enriching the vegetation with the recovery of the riparian forest, we generate a combination of actions that provide a positive impact on the region’s biodiversity,” said the manager.
“We want to be an example for the market. All of this is widely discussed with the secretariat and our dream is to create a private reserve to guarantee the longevity of this forest that we are going to recover and enrich,” added Gonçalves.
